February Community Service Initiative

by: Brad Smith, CEM, Director of Community Service

For our February 2020 Educational Program, PCMA’s Southeast chapter wants to do its part to help the citizens and animals in Australia that have been devastated by the historic and unprecedented wildfires across the country.

Due to geography, donating items or time is not practical, so please make a monetary donation directly to one of the worthy charities listed below. Our chapter has identified three options so you have the choice to assist the citizens, animals and/or fire fighters in Australia. Thank you for your support!

VETS BEYOND BORDERS

Australia is experiencing a horrendous bushfire event and Vets Beyond Borders is already deploying volunteers to affected states and territories, to assist in the response to this crisis. The impacts on wildlife species, farm animals and companion animals will be felt for many months. VBB needs your help to ensure our volunteer vets and nurses are available and equipped to provide the best possible care for the many thousands of animals requiring treatment, nursing and rehabilitation as a result of the current bushfires. Large amounts of veterinary supplies (pain-relieving drugs, burns dressings and medications) must be purchased to allow this work to continue.

AUSTRALIAN RED CROSS

As bushfires affect communities across Australia on an unprecedented scale, Red Cross is right there, providing practical, local support where it’s needed to tens of thousands of people during and after the emergencies. It’s all thanks to people like you.

Your donation helps Red Cross give people the support they need in disasters, whenever and wherever they happen. We have decades of experience in caring for people affected by earthquakes, cyclones, floods, storms, fire, drought and other emergencies.

This includes:

  • recovery programs and emergency assistance in communities affected by disasters like bushfires, heat, floods cyclones and other emergencies
  • helping people and communities prepare for disasters and protect what matters most
  • training, equipment, logistics and coordination of our volunteers

COUNTY FIRE AUTHORITY

Victoria is experiencing a significant bushfire season and CFA is playing a major role in the emergency response across the state.

We appreciate the many, very generous offers of support from Victorians for our members, who are either part of the very community they are defending, or who have left their families to defend other communities.
